Dr Terrance Drew, Prime has announced that they are focussed on achieving reliable 24-hour water supply for households across the island. The Prime Minister spoke on the matter of water supply and the ongoing drought conditions in the country during the National Assembly Sitting on Thursday 11, June 2026.
Dr. Drew said that 24-hour water supply is the national priority of their government and falls under the long-term development vision of the administration. As such, the government has made extensive investments to advance and improve the Federation’s water infrastructure.
The investments are aimed towards strengthening the island capacity during the time of drought conditions.
During the national assembly sitting, Dr Drew acknowledged the struggles of the households as the nation is facing drought situation. In responding to the crisis the administration has made several important investments, initiated upgrades of several facilitiies and created water supply as well as storage infrastructure.
He said, “We remain focused on delivering lasting solutions, not temporary fixes, so that every community can benefit from a dependable and sustainable water supply. Our commitment is unwavering and we will continue pushing forward until reliable, 24-hour water access becomes a reality across St. Kitts and Nevis”.
The government took up drilling projects in different parts of the community, upgraded infrastructure, completed the construction of a desalination plant, procured of pumps and motors. This proves that the St Kitts and Nevis leadership is actively working on expansion of water distribution networks to increase the consistency of the system.
The Prime Minister also shared the success of the investment done by the administration in the Cayon area. The administration installed a new well in the community in 2024 which improved the water availability in the region. He mentioned, “We invested 10s of 100s of 1000s of dollars to secure a well in Cayon, and today Cayon is one of those communities where 90 plus percent of the members have access to 24/7 water, even under the drought situation”.
Drew further announced that one more water infrastructure is under improvement and also a new connection has been installed to link water sources to St. Peter’s and nearby communities along with new pumps. To expand water production administration is continuing drilling operations in Saddlers and other communities across the island which help in providing water access throughout the Federation.
The prime minister stated that the mentioned measures are not a temporary initiative; these are designed in a way that will help in the long-term and will continue to ensure water security for next generations.
