Kingston, Jamaica: The Ministry of Health and Wellness of Jamaica announced the recording of seven COVID-19 deaths locally over a period of 24 hours on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased includes five women and 2 men from different health districtics of the country.
The deceased includes people from 61-year-old to 78 year-olds.
The deaths includes a 73-year-old woman from the corporate area, an 85-year-old woman from the capital, a 73-year-old man from the corporate area, a 55-year-old woman from St James, a 62-year-old wife of St James; a 61-year-old woman from St James, and a 78-year-old man also from St James.
The ministry also declared a total of 723 new cases of the virus in the same 24-hour period, saying the group brought the total number of confirmed positive cases nationally to 26,026.
The new cases include 290 men and 409 women, while gender is being investigated in 24 cases.
The ages under the new cases range from seven months to 95 years.
Kingston and St Andrew with 265 cases, St Catherine with 141, Portland with 58 and St James 54, brought the lead among the congregations in terms of the new case.
Over the 24-hour period, a total of 2640 samples were tested, the ministry reported.
Recoveries increased, with 142 cases recorded over the one-day period.
The ministry also reports that of 271 people now admitted to hospital, 31 are classified as moderately ill, while 31 are classified as critically ill.
