The opposition backed media outlets continues to fuel negativity regarding the government’s sustainable Housing Programme. The Minister of Constituency empowerment, Dr Joyelle Clarke, informed the public that the houses which will be constructed under the affordable housing programme will be constructed with smaller dimensions in a sustainable and climate resilient manner.
The smaller dimensions of the houses are part of Dr Terrance Drew led government’s sustainability agenda. Dr Clarke was proud to announce that the new homes will be constructed keeping in mind the space restrictions that the small island nation will eventually pose. St kitts and Nevi is the smallest island nation in the western hemisphere.
As one of the smallest island nations, the government has to find a solution to the problem of them inevitably losing out on space. The houses are not the only thing that the nation and its people need, even though it is a basic necessity.
As such the dimensions of the houses being provided under the affordable housing programme are smaller than traditional houses. This should be looked at from the lens of the future, where other development will also take up space.
Under the company’s sustainability agenda, St Kitts and Nevis Labor Party administration is working actively to make sure that the future generations are not affected by the development avenues of the present. In the long run, these homes will be hailed for their minimalism and class as the government has promised a modern, smart home which can withstand adverse weather conditions like hurricanes.
The negativity regarding the size of the homes is proof of the opposition backed media outlet’s short-sighted approach. The government has already delivered more than 180 homes to families across St Kitts and Nevis.
Further, construction of more than seventy homes is already under construction and will be provided to the families in the near future. The authorities have been working tirelessly to make sure familes across the nation have affordable, smart, climate resilient homes.
