Konris Maynard, the Minister of Public Utilities, public infrastructure, et al, is hosting the 2025 edition of the Ikon Roots and Culture Summer Camp. The camp which started on Monday, will run through the week and conclude on August 1 with a variety of activities and initiatives planned.
The five day event is being hosted under the theme Celebrating Heritage, honoring the Earth.
The first three days of the five day Summer camp have already concluded with the participating youngsters engaging in several differential initiatives. The programme provides the participants an opportunity to indulge in different activities every day.
During the five day summer camp, participants can indulge in art & craft, hair braiding, masquerade, calypso, steel pan and more. The participants will also be taken to field trips to iconic locations across the island.
During the first day of the Ikon Roots and Culture Summer Camp, the children participated in a class for arts and crafts. The children created paintings and creative items during the class and presented their creations with pride and joy.
Further. The children also created several sweet treats in the confectionery class and learned valuable lessons in teamwork and creativity. In the meantime, the children also had the opportunity to enjoy the steelpan music rooted in the culture of the island nation.
The youngsters also had the opportunity to indulge in activities like hopscotch, scrabble matches and photography sessions. Storytellers, who were among the children participating in the Ikon Roots and Culture Summer Camp, got their own platform to shine.
On day two, the summer camp continued with activities like the masquerade, crochet classes, drumming sessions and more. The five day summer camp continues to provide the participants with unforgettable learning experiences.
The children will be visiting the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park which will help the children learn more about their history and roots. The children will also be able to take a trip through the experiences of the twin island nation as they gather more information about the historic monument.
