The Government of St Kitts and Nevis, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, is planning to take several necessary actions to create a sustainable medicinal cannabis industry.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis spoke on the matter during an interview with a local media channel. He stated that a lot of work is needed to develop the medicinal cannabis industry. He referred to the present condition of the industry, saying that the nation was far too behind.
He stated that several countries in the Caribbean, including Antigua and St Vincent, are ahead of St Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister said that people travel to these countries to get the advantage of a well-monitored, well-controlled industry that allows the use of Marijuana.
The Prime Minister assured that St Kitts and Nevis would step on the path, and the nation would see a lot of action in the industry in the first year.
The Prime Minister added that the nation has a marijuana commission in place and that commission will start functioning in earnest to get us to be at par with the rest of the countries.
In a meeting hosted by the Prime Minister shortly after being elected, Dr Terrannce Drew and his Cabinet discussed several steps to develop the marijuana industry. Out of the many changes proposed, The Prime Minister had presented to de-criminalize possession of Marijuana for medicinal purposes.
He repeated the same decision in this interview, stating that the government will then move to expunge the records of those who have criminal records for possession of Marijuana. He said that criminal records should not be used to limit people’s advancement in their own lives.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew stated that the government would ensure that the people of St Kitts and Nevis can benefit from the industry.
