The police had said that at least one person had lost his life, and 15 others have been reported to be injured on Friday when a bomb blasted in a busy market area in Pakistan’s garrison city of Rawalpindi.
The explosion took place in Saddar area of the city, which is not very far away from the General Headquarters of the Army of Pakistan.
Sajidul Hassan, a Police spokesperson, said that the initial reports have suggested that the explosive material had been planted in a nearby electric pole.
Properties located around the site of the explosion have also been damaged severely. Authorities have sealed off the area and rescue efforts are going on.
The police spokesperson has said that the investigative teams and the people from the forensics science lab are collecting the evidence from the area.
The spokesperson added that the blast was an “attempt at organised terrorism, but the people playing with the lives of the public will not be able to escape the law.” No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, which occurred when the country is battling the coronavirus pandemic.
