The former chairman of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), attorney Chesley Hamilton has given his endorsement to the NextGen SKN candidates of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Pary (SKNLP).
Hamilton said the outgoing Team Unity coalition of the People’s Labour Party (PLP), the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and the People’s Action Movement (PAM), has failed to deliver on its good governance agenda promised in its five-year term 2015 to 2020.
He pointed to several issues including freedom of information, integrity in public life and electoral and constitutional reform.
“That is why I believe that the NextGen SKN – like Dr Terrance Drew and Konris Maynard – guys who have distinguished themselves before they come into government. They are not afraid of speaking the truth to power,” said Chesley during EK Flanders show on Freedom 106.5 FM.
Hamilton said the NextGen candidate Leon Natta-Nelson, who is challenging the incumbent Dr Timothy Harris for St Christopher 7 seat, “has challenged the powers that be before he even reaches into government. When a civil servant takes on the structure and take court action and win, that is the type on conceit you want in a leader. That is what you want in a leader, a young person who decides to take public office. I prefer these guys.”
Hamilton is among several supporters of the Team Unity coalition who have expressed disappointment with the leadership and performance of prime minister Dr Timothy Harris and ministers and have publicly endorsed either the leadership of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party or individual NextGen SKN candidates.
