Independence Square in Basseterre has become a garbage dump after St. Kitts and Nevis was affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The Fountain in the square continues to be a growing health hazard, as it is with plastic bottles, plastic bags, styrofoam and other wrappings.
The stagnant, moss-filled water in the fountain has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Some garbage has been removed by authorities, but tree trunks and branches brought down in the square during the passing hurricanes remain on the ground surrounding the fountain.
Concerns have been raised around when the clean-up effort will finish, as three cruise ships have already visited the island with it in its current state.
