Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General has addressed countries helping other countries in the global fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
His spokesman has said this, days after India had sent supplies of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine to several countries, including the United States.
It is noteworthy that Hydroxychloroquine has been recognised by the United States Food and Drug Administration as a potential treatment for the COVID-19 disease, and the drug is being tested on more than 1,500 COVID-19 patients in New york.
Within the past few days, after India determined to lift a ban on the export of the drug, the demand for the drug has increased rapidly.
Stephane Dujarric, UN chief Antonio Guterres’ spokesperson said that the Secretary-General has called for global solidarity during the global struggle against the virus, which indicates that every country which is in a position to assist another country should assist the other country, and the UN praise the countries which are already doing so.
Stephane Dujarric was answering a question asked about Guterres’ reaction to India’s efforts of sending the medicine and other supplies to other countries in need of the supplies amidst the global coronavirus outbreak.
India had lifted the previously imposed ban on the export of the anti-malaria drug which is being seen as a potential cure for COVID-19 coronavirus.
India is within the process of supplying Hydroxychloroquine to 55 coronavirus-hit countries as grants also as on a commercial basis.
Several nations, including the United States, Mauritius and Seychelles, have received the drug within the past few days. Meanwhile, several other countries would be getting the drug by the weekend.
In the neighbourhood, India is exporting the drug to Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh Nepal, the Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, sources stated.
India is additionally supplying Hydroxychloroquine to Zambia, Dominican Republic, Madagascar, Uganda, land, Niger, Mali, Congo, Egypt, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Jamaica, Syria, Ukraine, Chad, Zimbabwe, France, Jordan, Kenya, European nation, Nigeria, Peru and Oman.
