The residents of a rural village in St Vincent have said that they are living in fear now, as a woman who had spent the past few days in that village has tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus on Wednesday.
Hours after the Ministry of Health announced that St Vincent and the Grenadines had recorded its second confirmed case of COVID-19, a resident of the village said that everyone was panicking.
The Ministry of Health has noted that the sample which has tested positive for COVID-19 had been taken from a female patient who had travelled to St Vincent and the Grenadines from the United States on March 25.
The Health Ministry said in a release that the patient and all the other passengers on her flight were kept in mandatory quarantine since the time of her arrival in SVG.
She had reported symptoms on March 28, and then a sample was taken from her for COVID-19.
However, a resident said that the entire village should be shut down as the patient was not in quarantine. Instead, for two days she walked the whole village hugging and kissing people.
According to the resident, the woman who was found positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus had lived in the United States for several years had stayed in Kingstown for two days after she arrived in St Vincent on March 25.
It has also been reported that she travelled by minivan to her home village, where she owns a house.
The resident said that the woman had taken the same van in which the resident herself was travelling on Friday afternoon. She added that the woman was coughing all the time, although she was wearing a mask, yet she kept coughing.
According to the residents, the woman had visited almost every area of the village, including the village shops on Friday and Saturday.
