Last month, a young man named Jahiem Octalien had made local and regional headlines after he escaped from the Rodney Bay COVID-19 quarantine facility in Gros Islet. Now, the escapee has said that he did not regret returning to quarantine.
It is noteworthy that Jahiem Octalien was among those 85 individuals who were sent home today on Friday, April 3 after completing their 14-day quarantine at the Rodney Bay Public Health Facility.
Octalien admitted in a release that he had jumped the wall and escaped quarantine.
Also that at that time, he was among a group of people who had just arrived in Saint Lucia from Martinique via ferry.
He said that he had come to Saint Lucia for a funeral and initially did not like the quarantine facility although the young man has now admitted that it is safer to be in quarantine than to run away.
Octalien said that when he returned to the facility things were not going very well.
He noted that when he came back to the quarantine facility, things were patchy, and added that being in the facility is better than being outside.
Octalien added that he does not mind staying at the facility because there are more diseases outside than in the facility.
According to a news report, Octalien had returned to the quarantine facility after a statement issued by Acting Police Commissioner Milton Desir.
The Acting Police Commissioner had told that the police had responded to the reports that some detainees were misbehaving and others were escaping.
It has been reported that Octalien has not been charged for escaping the facility.
Meanwhile, another individual who was released today from quarantine, said that the Prime Minister is making the right decisions in the fight against the novel coronavirus.
It is noteworthy that the virus has infected over a million people and has killed over 51,000 people worldwide, to date.
