The Energy Unit of St Kitts and Nevis organised a workshop for over twenty energy technicians across the island. The workshop was hosted on August 11, 2026 and allowed the participants to learn about the application process for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems under the SOLARISE program.
The energy unit hosted the workshop to diversify the country’s energy consumption by introducing renewable sources of energy like solar energy. The officials have shared that the mandate falls in line with the goal of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities to advance the national sustainable energy agenda.
The director of the St Kitts Energy Unit has shared the details of the workshop in a formal communication. He said that the initiative was crucial to ensure that the application and onboarding process for the SOLARISE project remains efficient and smooth..
The director of the Energy Unit has shared that “We want our technicians to be versed in the application forms to facilitate the onboarding process for their clients.”
At the same time the organisation also wants to make sure that they train all the interested individuals assessing the suitability of various solar PV system components consumers may wish to install, by focusing on their abilities to read the manufacturers’ specifications of batteries, modules and inverters
During the workshop, Director of the Energy Unit, Dr. Bertill Browne delivered a presentation and he informed the participants about how the various application and inspection forms should be completed. He took time to highlight important fields on the forms using a projector. He also informed the participants where the relevant field entries could be located in equipment specifications.
The workshop was a interactive session where the participants were given a chance to ask their questions and learn about other official work including licensing. The participants also asked clarifying questions on the regulations governing their activities under the SOLARISE program.
The officers told the participants about how they were expected to engage with St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd (SKELEC) regarding getting connectivity within the electricity grid during the testing and implementation phases of their installations.
