The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (St. Christopher and Nevis Circuit) organised a special sitting of the court to honor the Late Charles Lucien Arthur Wilkin, CMG, KC, MA (Cantab), who had a distinguished 55 years of career in the legal profession. The special sitting took place on Thursday August 6, 2026.
According to reports, in the sitting, attendees celebrated and acknowledged Arthur Wilkin’s service to the legal profession including the administration of justice in St. Kitts and Nevis and across the Eastern Caribbean. The members of the legal fraternity, judiciary and government officials attended the sitting to pay their tribute to one of the significant legal personalities of the island.
During the sitting prominent legal personalities delivered their tribute for Late Chales Wilkin. The personalities which attended the event were President of the OCES Bar Association, Delano Bart KC, Anthony Gonsalves KC and President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Bar Association, Kurlyn Merchant.
In their tribute, the speakers highlighted Wilkin’s journey as a mentor for young attorneys and acknowledged his contributions to the development of the legal profession throughout the region.
In the special sitting Late Arthur Wilkin son Garth Wilkin, the Attorney General of St. Kitts and Nevis was also present. He was accompanied by the members of the Bench and Bar at the special sitting of the court. Moreover, the main objective of the sitting was to give tribute to Charles Wilkin’s outstanding service to the legal community and the lasting influence he leaves on the upcoming generation of legal practitioners.
Additionally, Charles Wilkin passed away last month Saturday 25, 2026 at the age of 77 years. He was born and done his early education in St. Kitts, completed his law graduation from Pembroke College, Cambridge and also had a Master of Arts degree from the same University.
He started his legal career in the island in 1988 by partnering with Frederick Kelsick in the firm of Kelsick and Wilkin. In the same year he was appointed as the Queen’s Counsel and from 1988-1966 he served as Chairman of the Electoral Commission also since 1979 he was leading the TDC as a director.
Notably, he was the founder of WINNFM, one of the island’s leading independent and current affairs radio stations. In November 2015 he published his first book named “Breaking the Cycle-Politics, Constitutional Change and Governance in St. Kitts and Nevis.”.
