The Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd is celebrating her 73rd Birthday on July 10, 2026. Dame Liburd is the fifth governor general of St Kitts and Nevis and assumed the office on February 1, 2026.
The leaders from across the island have extended their best wishes to the Governor General. The people of the island congratulated her on her birthday while recalling her lifelong service to the nation. She has been in the public eye for several years and held several offices during the course of her political career.
Liburd started her career with teaching at the Basseterre High School which was her own Alma Mater and the Cayon High School. Liburd has also obtained a Bachelor of Law with honours degree in 1992 from Norman Manley Law School (NMLS). She also obtained a Legal Education Certificate from NMLS in 1994.
As a politician, she started her career in 1997 at which point she was appointed the secretary of the Labour Party. She was also the first woman to be appointed speaker of the National Assembly from the years 2004 to 2008. Dame Marcella Liburd contested the election from constituency 2 and was elected during the 2008 elections. As a part of the administration, she has served as the Minister of Health, Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs. At one point, she also served as Acting Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.
Her long-standing list of achievements has earned her the respect of the nation. The leadership of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party has shared posts on their respective social media pages to congratulate Dame Liburd on her birthday.
