St. Kitts and Nevis inaugurated their first diplomatic mission in India on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. The ceremony was organized in New Delhi, with Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar in attendance as the Chief Guest.
Also in attendance at the ceremony was Dr Denzil Douglas, who serves as St Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was leading a delegation from the federation consisting of Foreign Service Officer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis Jazzée Connor.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday evening, starting with a ceremonial lamp-lighting inauguration. Afterwards, an official ribbon cutting ceremony was organized to declare the mission open formally.
The official commissioning of the High Commission signifies the beginning of strong and strategic partnership between India and St. Kitts and Nevis. The two nations have been working on strengthening their collaboration in areas such as tourism, trade, and cultural exchange
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, St. Kitts and Nevis is currently on an official visit to India which is aimed towards improving the diplomatic ties between the two nations. The opening ceremony forms an important part of this visit.
The High Commissioner of St. Kitts and Nevis to India, Gurdip Dev Bath was also in attendance at the event. St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of India have shared 41 years of mutual diplomatic ties.
Dr Douglas addressed the attendants at the inauguration ceremony; he called the ceremony a truly historic occasion. Dr Douglas has expressed his great pride on the commissioning of the first ever resident diplomatic mission of St. Kitts and Nevis in India.
He said, “Since the beginning of modern diplomacy, the establishment of a resident diplomatic mission in another country has long been regarded as one of the most significant achievements in bilateral relations.”
He also asserted that the fact that St. Kitts and Nevis has established a resident diplomatic mission in India points to a shift from dialogue to delivery.
The two nations have been working towards turning shared priorities into practical cooperation and meaningful opportunities.
Dr Douglas has highlighted that the High Commission will play a very important role in advancing cooperation in areas like sustainable development, investment, technology, education and renewable energy, et al.
Dr Denzil Douglas has also expressed hopes of strengthening the people to people ties between the two nations.
Minister of External Affairs, India, Dr S. Jaishankar also addressed the ceremony and reflected on the history of the relationship which has existed between St. Kitts and Nevis and India for over four decades. He noted that they have been working together on various issues of mutual significance to both the nations.

Foreign Service Officer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis Jazzée Connor delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of St. Kitts and Nevis. During her address, Connor extended her sincere gratitude to Dr Jaishankar for his presence at the ceremony.
In the same breath, she expressed appreciation to the republic of India for continued ties of friendship towards the federation. Connor also thanked Dr Denzil Douglas for his impactful address at the commissioning ceremony for the High Commission.
With the inauguration of the High Commission, St. Kitts and Nevis becomes the first nation within the Eastern Caribbean to have resident diplomatic presence in India. The expansion of the federation’s diplomatic presence in various parts of the world and the strengthening of the country’s international partnerships is being guided by the vision and leadership of Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Before the inauguration ceremony, Dr Denzil Douglas met with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr S. Jaishankar for a high-level bilateral meeting at Hydrabad House in New Delhi.
During this meeting, the leaders spoke about a variety of issues and reflected on mutually informative topics.
The discussions of the two leaders touched on various topics, crucial among which was the issue of climate change and disaster preparedness. Dr Jaishankar highlighted how the two nations can work together on the issue of disaster preparedness and disaster relief.
He highlighted that India has medical kit equipment which can serve as tools of aid in medical assistance. Discussions also touched on the possibility of St. Kitts and Nevis expanding their medical brigade in partnership with India.
The two leaders further discussed the geopoliticak situation in Venezuela and Cuba as well as Iran and the Middle East as a whole. Dr Douglas and Dr Jaishankar deliberated on the rapidly changing geopolitical dynamics in the world.
The leaders further spoke about the consolidation of the cooperation framework between India and St. Kitts and Nevis to help advance economic development of the two nations.
