The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas has travelled to New Delhi, India for an official visit. One of the most important parts of this visit is the inauguration of the first high commission of St Kitts and Nevis in India.
The visit is aimed at expanding collaboration and goodwill between the two nations through high level discussions.
Dr Douglas was given a warm welcome into the country by the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, India. The visit, according to the MEA Stakeholders, holds crucial weight in strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Dr Douglas’s visit to India started with his arrival in Delhi On April 3, after which he immediately travelled to Chandigarh for a two day regional engagement. He returned to Delhi on Sunday, April 5, at which point the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs welcomed him formally.
On Monday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas will be part of the formal inauguration of the HIgh Commission of St Kitts and Nevis in India. This inauguration event is one of the most important engagements on the itinerary of the Minister of Forein Affairs.
The High Commission which is being inaugurated during this visit is the First resident diplomatic mission of St Kitts and Nevis in India. Prior to this, diplomatic matters were handled by the High Commission in London or concurrent accreditation from other regions.
The St Kitts and Nevis Minister will also be meeting with the Dr S. Jaishankar, who serves as the Union Minister of External Affairs in India. During this meeting, the two counterparts are expected to engage in several important discussion in areas like cooperation in Trade opportunities between the two nations. They will also discuss areas of partnership in IT, and healthcare cooperation.
During the visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas will be working on expanding on the existing areas of cooperation. The two nations have been working together in areas of Sports, digital infrastructure, education and healthcare.
