Republic of China (Taiwan) has reaffirmed their commitment to supporting St Kitts and Nevis as the government continues efforts to pursue building of a sustainable island state. Taiwan has said that St Kitts and Nevis has the unwavering commitment of the country as they work towards becoming energy resilient.
The journey of energy resilience starts with the official launch of the Green Energy Transition Demonstration Project. The launch event was hosted on Tuesday with the Ambassador of Taiwan, Edward Ling-Wen Tao in attendance.
The ambassador spoke at the launch event and highlighted the strength of the relationship between the two nations. He also spoke about the significance of the event during the launch event.
He has shared that this initiative means more to the nation than a mere technical undertaking. He said that this project highlights the two nation’s shared vision for a a sustainable and resilient future.
The Ambassador further shared that the collaboration which has existed between the two nations has existed for the last time. Taiwan has helped St Kitts and Nevis in their journey of pursuing renewable energy transition.
The Ambassador has shared that St Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan have their reliance on imported fuels and vulnerability to climate change as common factors which connect the two nations. This is why, Taiwan can help and support, guide St Kitts and Nevis as they go on this innovative and forward thinking journey.
The two nations have been working together on the journey of pursuing renewable energy through 2021. The cooperation has since evolved beyond infrastructure to strengthening institutional capacity
Ambassador Tao appreciated the leadership of the Minister of Public Utilities Konris Maynard for the work which he has done. He shared that during the course of this partnership they have conducted comprehensive cost-benefit analyses and developed the regulatory framework necessary for a modern energy market.
