Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, during his four day visit to Ghana has visited several important landmarks of the country. The Prime Minister has been paying tribute to the heroes of Ghana and laying wreaths in honour of the enduring connections between Saint Kitts and Nevis and the wider African diaspora.
The Prime Minister laid the Wreath at the William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B.) Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan African Culture. The Prime Minister also visited the historic Cape Coast Castle on Thursday, March 5.
Both the visits were aimed towards improving the connection between the two nations. Both the visits also took place on March 5. The Prime Minister was given a tour for the two organizations.
The Prime Minister has shared some images from both the excursions on his social media.
He noted that he was honored to have the opportunity to learn the history of the country while respecting the connections that emerge between the two nations.
Dr Terrance Drew’s visit to the historic Cape Coast Castle on Thursday, March 5, was a part of a stop in Ghana’s Central Region.The guided tour of the centuries-old fortress served as an opportunity for the Prime Minister and his team to reflect.
This building was one of the most significant sites connected to the transatlantic slave trade which connected Ghana and St Kitts and Nevis several centuries ago.
The fortress was built in 1653, Cape Coast Castle and at one point in time, the location served as a major holding point for enslaved Africans.
From this Point, the people were transported across the Atlantic. As of 2026, the site stands as a powerful reminder of a painful chapter in world history.
This chapter of world history has continued to shape the identity, culture, and heritage of Caribbean nations. The castle is the largest of the remaining structures linked to the transatlantic slave trade and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
