The members of the St Kitts and Nevis Youth Parliament Association (SKNYPA) and the National Youth Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda paid a visit to the Governor General of St Kitts and Nevis, Dame Marcella Liburd. The two organisations had been collaborating for the historic inaugural sitting of the Eastern Caribbean Youth Parliament.
The officials have shared that the members of the two organisations met with the Governor General during a courtesy call. She was accompanied by several other officers and government officials.
The group of youngsters also extended their courtesy visits to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley. Dr Hanley is a founding member of SKNYPA and has been one of the biggest advocates for youth development.
The St Kitts and Nevis Youth Parliament Association and the National Youth Parliament of Antigua-Barbuda also met with the Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Action et al, Dr. Joyelle Clarke and Speaker of the National Assembly,Lanein Blanchette.
They also met with the Leader and Deputy Leader of the People’s Action Movement, Natasha Grey-Brookes and Mr. Azard Gumbs.
These meetings were part of the organization’s outreach to the various leaders of the country.
“During these meaningful exchanges, discussions highlighted the history and significance of the Eastern Caribbean Youth Parliament Network (ECYPN) agreement, as well as the role of young people in shaping the future of governance, sustainable development, and regional integration. The conversations served as a platform for youth parliamentarians to share their perspectives. They were able to gain valuable insights from national leaders, and strengthen their commitment to regional youth collaboration,” a SKNYPA statement said.
After these meetings the youth parliament for both the nations. The members expressed a renewed sense of inspiration from the meetings. They promised that they will work to continue their advocacy efforts.
They also promised to diligently serve as agents of positive change within their communities and across the wider Caribbean.
