The JNF General Hospital in Basseterre, St Kitts, underwent major updates for the improvement of the health care sector. The new design of the hospital was revealed on Friday, February 7th, 2025 at the St Kitts Marriott Resort. The event was also live streamed on the social media pages of St Kitts and Nevis Information Service.
The Government of St Kitts and Nevis is focused on improving health infrastructure through significant capital investments, including renovations at one of the oldest hospitals of St Kitts and Nevis, Joseph Nathaniel France (JNF) General Hospital.
Improvements at the JNF General Hospital
The renovations included the hospital’s lobby area, aimed at improving the overall design of the hospital while accommodating a larger number of patients waiting for their treatment. The project was launched in November 2023, under the management of The Cable Company.
The hospital also added new equipment in recent months, including dialysis machines, anesthesia machines, MRI scan and CT scan machines, and advanced equipment for technologically advanced procedures like laparoscopic surgeries.
The renovations increased the hospital’s capacities to treat more accident and emergency cases at once. The Nursing Block got more beds and facilities to provide better services to pregnant ladies and newborn children.
Moreover, a specialized training workshop was hosted at the JNF General Hospital in January 2025 for emergency medical professionals, under the guidance of a US board – certified emergency medical doctors.

Prime Minister and Minister of Health, Dr Terrance Drew said the JNF General Hospital has seen other improvements in the form of roofs, recruitment of specialists, and extending scholarships to nurses to become specialists in different areas of nursing.
He also said that health is a national issue and everyone should ensure that the hospital serves everybody’s needs and offers high – quality services.
