Basseterre, St. Kitts: The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, through the Ministry of Sport and the Creative Economy, is proud to announce national recognition for Mikyle Louis, who is set to become St. Kitts’ first cricketer to play Test Cricket for the West Indies.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, Minister of Creative Economy Samal Duggins, Minister of Foreign Affairs Denzil Douglas, Junior Minister of Gender, Ageing and Disabilities Isalean Philip, and other key delegates celebrated Louis’s historic achievement.
Mikyle Louis, 23, has been picked in the West Indies’ 15-member squad for their Tour of England in July 2024. He emerged as the leading run-scorer with 682 runs from 14 innings in seven matches at an average of 48.71 during the 2024 West Indies Championship.
Louis had a fine average with three centuries, of which two were in a single match at the historic Warner Park Cricket Stadium. However, Mikyle is one of the three who scored four or more half-centuries, which explains his consistency.
Even though he is not an opening batsman, he will potentially forge a new opening partnership with Test Captain Kraigg Brathwaite during the England tour.
Given all of this commendable performance, the Ministry of Sport and the Creative Economy sought the support of the Cabinet for national recognition of Mikyle Louis. The Federal Cabinet of Ministers has approved the following recommendations to honour him:
-Naming of the South Stands at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in his honour.
-Allocating a parcel of land to him
-Naming a road in his honour.
Official ceremonial events for these designations will follow in due course. The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis congratulates Mikyle Louis and wishes him the best as he looks towards his first Test match against England, starting on July 10 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London.
Louis has now been added to the list of Test Cricketers from this Federation of West Indies, joining Nevisians Elquemedo Willett, Stewart Williams, Keith Arthurton, and Runako Morton. His journey speaks volumes to personal commitment and the future of cricket in our nation.
