Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew engaged in talks with Deputy Managing Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF)- Bo Li and his team on Thursday. The meeting focused on the discussions regarding the ECCB Headquarters.
PM Drew addressed the various matters of concern and talked about the significant progress made by his country towards achieving the Sustainable Island State agenda.
The Prime Minister took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to share the glimpses of his meeting with IMF delegates.
“I had a productive meeting with Deputy Managing Director Bo Li and his team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including Executive Director, IMF, Philip Jennings. This meeting set the stage for discussions ahead of the 107th Meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Monetary Council” he added.
The topics which were discussed during the meeting are as follows:
- Unprecedented renewable energy projects
- Implementation of good governance laws
- Technological innovation
- Advancements in water management
- Enhanced citizenship by investment programme
Notably, the table was joined by many other government officials from St Kitts and Nevis including Financial Secretary- Hilary Hazel and Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office- Naeemah Hazelle.
Noting this, the IMF Director Li was accompanied by Executive Director of IMF- Philip Jennings.
Director Li further highlighted and lauded the achievements of the country on climate adaptation and resilience building which strengthen the future goals of a sustainable island nation.
Moreover, they focused on the ideas to bring advancement in their tourism sector through increased flights, stay-over tourism, and cruise ship visits.
Recently, St Kitts and Nevis welcomed five cruises on the shores of Basseterre on Tuesday, which fosters the tourism sector of the country by bringing a number of employment opportunities.
As tourism is considered the main industry in SKN, the growth in this sector will directly enhance the economic conditions of the nation.
It is to be noted that the twin-island nation is all set to welcome many other vessels in the forthcoming days such as Royal Clipper, MSC Seaside, Celebrity Ascent, Star Flyer, and many more.
Director Li stated that he has always been committed to the ECCU member countries, including policy advice, lending, and technical assistance.
Additionally, the meeting is expected to have positive outcomes for both the allies.
