Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Denzil Douglas took to social media and announced that he attended a meeting in collaboration with the High Commission of St Kitts Nevis to Canada .The high-level virtual Meeting was held with Dr. Rustum Southwell, the recently appointed Chancellor of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The main aim of the Meeting was to discuss development initiatives and to strengthen long standing relationship between the government of St Kitts and Nevis and Dalhousie University.
Additional minister of foreign affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, described Dr Rustum Southwell as the son of the former Premier and National Hero, Rt Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell.
The Meeting agenda was to address the above topics.
- Refine Strategy to benefit from the Blue Economy,
- Cooperation in Health,
- Pair Youth Group in St. Kitts-Nevis with Counterparts in Canada.
- Youth Entrepreneurship using the Nova Scotia Model: Black Business Initiative (BBI),
- Agricultural Development,
- Sustainable Business Hub at C A Paul Southwell Industrial Park as empowerment Zone for manufacturing and exporting world-class products
St Kitts and Nevis is continuing to work on its goal of becoming a sustainable island. Elsewhere, it announced the geothermal project, which will allow the twin island to generate its own electricity.
The partnership with Dalhousie University will align with St Kitts and Nevis’s vision of becoming the first sustainable small island state.
Dr. Douglas indicated that the Ministry, through the High Commission for St. Kitts and Nevis in Ottawa, would continue its dialogue with strategic partners in the diaspora to aid in the growth and development of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Previously, Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley once shared that Nevis has discovered geothermal energy for the benefit of St Kitts and Nevis and also for exports to other nations around the world, making it the first island to be independently sustainable.
