Nevis Island Administration has facilitated 399 women accessing free mammograms at the Alexandra Hospital in order to promote women’s health on the island.
Earlier in October 2023, NIA moved with zeal to assist women in getting screened for breast cancer by offering free doctor referrals.
Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, first announced the additional relief measure in October 2023 during his monthly press conference.
This program was launched in coexistence with the addition of a cutting-edge Philips mammography system. This initiative incorporates digital breast tomosynthesis. It was obtained at a cost of US $229,585, reinforcing the commitment to early detection of breast cancer.
Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley took to social media and shared about this new development on his Facebook.
Mark Brantley expressed his gratitude to CCM for contributing to the health of women.
Mark Brantley wrote, “Thank you to all who responded and got tested. The service continues at the Alexandra Hospital for the price of EC$200 as of January 1, 2024.

Jahnel Nisbett, Minister of Health, highlighted that the initiative, valued was EC$79,800.
Jahnel Nisbett emphasized that the Nevis Island Administration acknowledge the importance of equal healthcare access in order for women from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to profit from this life-saving program.
Jahnel Nisbett stated that “to enable further continued accessibility, the subsidized fee, effective from January 1, 2024, stands at EC$200, intentionally set below the market value.”
Minister of Health highlighted that the effort to initiate this program represents a great step towards women’s health.
