The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social media account to extend his deepest condolences to the victims who were affected due to the recent house fire in the Wades Garden, St. Kitts. The house fire resulted in the death of a Nonagenarian of the federation, Devorita Weekes.
The Prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew who handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health, expressed that he was extremely sad to receive such a piece of heartbreaking news from the police force.
In line with this, Prime Minister Terrance Drew extended his sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, who are grieving a great loss. The Prime Minister extended his support to the family in this trying time.
PM Dr Terrance Drew expressed his grief on the situation with the following message on his social media account, It is with heavy hearts that we learn from the St Kitts and Nevis Police reports of the passing of Devorita Weekes. She was a 91-year-old resident of Wades Garden, who perished following a house fire earlier in the morning of August 21.
He took the initiative to assure the people of the island that the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force is diligently carrying out the investigation into the root cause of the unfortunate incident.
He added that, at this somber time, I want to convey my sincerest condolences to the grieving family and friends of the departed. May they find strength and solace during this difficult period.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas also joined the leader of the SKNLP and the Prime Minister of the country, Dr Terrance Drew in extending his deepest condolences to the grieving loved ones of the departed soul.
About the incident:
Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force recieved reports of a house fire in Wades Garden. They immediately dispatched a unit from the The St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services at about 2:35 AM. After the team arrived at the scene, the crew witnessed that the house was engulfed in flames. They extinguished the fire in approximately 3 hours.
Once they had successfully extinguished the fire, the officers weneere able to retrieve the charred remains of 91-year-old Devorita Weekes, in the living room.
District Medical Doctor, Dr. Akin Oduntan was responsible for pronouncing the victim, Weekes dead on the scene. Some eyewitnesses and Officers of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force were present at the scene. They were responsible for extending their support and assistance. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
