The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew and other members of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party embarked on an island-wide wraith laying initiative to pay tribute to all the former national heroes and significant members of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party or the Labour Movement. The SKNLPs initiative came ahead of the National Labour Day Celebration. They will commemorate the celebration on Monday, May 1, 2023.
The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and his team, consisting of Dr Geoffrey Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Denzil Douglas, Senior Minister and Former Prime Minister, Ministers Samal Duggins and Konris Maynard and Ambassadors Leon Natta and Kenneth Douglas travelled to the resting place of Former Parliamentary representative of Constituency 8, Clarence Fitzroy Bryant and laid a wreath on his grave, payiing tribute to the politician.
IN 1997, the college located on the Burdon Street of the former Cunningham Complex has renamed the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in honour of the personality. Bryant served as the Minister of Education in a former Labour Party-led administration, and the rename of the college applauded his contribution to the country’s education field.
He sought and obtained from the University of west indies a programme that provided Kittitians and Nevisians with part-time studies. The programme was meant for people who wanted to pursue higher studies, leading to an undergraduate degree.
He was instrumental in introducing teacher training and vocational colleges in the country. Clarence Fitzroy Bryant had a revolutionary approach to education. The people of St Kitts and Nevis paid tribute to the personality who shattered several social and financial barricades of the country, which kept several youngsters from low-income families and working-class families from getting access to education for several years.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, who is the parliamentary representative of Constituency 8, which was home to Minister Bryant, also paid tribute to the comrade and former minister of Education in St Kitts and Nevis. He also observed that while several people overlook this fact in favour of highlighting his achievements in the field of education, Minister Clarence Fitzroy Bryant also served as the minster of health under the Bradshaw-led Labour Administration.
He played an important part in ushering the primary healthcare services into St Kitts and Nevis. As a former Parliamentary representative of Constituency 8, Dr Drew believes, Minister Bryant accomplished much and did significant work for the labour movement.
The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew highlighted that Clarence Fitzroy Bryant’s contribution to the society in St Kitts and Nevis has been tremendous as the minister of education. His life was a life of contribution, sacrifice and selflessness. Dr Terrance Drew asserted that he would have left an example for all of us to follow.
