The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Douglas, recently delivered his remarks during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Diplomatic Week in St Kitts and Nevis. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Douglas, played a crucial role in facilitating the government to host the Diplomatic Week. During the address, he stressed the significant efforts that they have made for the benefit of the country.
During the last 40 years of independence, the minister of foreign affairs, international trade, commerce and Industry asserted that they had laid the foundation for a just, fair and democratic society. Accordingly, the senior minister contended that the value of diplomacy had increased manifolds as they sought to forge international relationships to build and invest in for the next forty years of nationhood.
Accordingly, Dr Denzil Douglas asserted that the responsibility for the Ministry of foreign affairs, international trade, commerce and Industry has increased as they would need to venture into the world. Now the ministry under the charge of Minister Dr Douglas is entrusted with helping construct the next chapter of nationhood.
Further, the minister of foreign affairs promised that they would strengthen the democracy of St Kitts and Nevis and increase the availability of developmental opportunities through increased investment, innovation and empowerment of the country’s economy. Further, he added that the government of St Kitts and Nevis is working on realizing the vision of making the country a sustainable island state.
Through the realization of becoming a sustainable island nation, Dr Denzil Douglas asserted that they would deliver on the promise of strengthening and uplifting the economy. In the same breath, the minister added that the Ministry of foreign affairs, international trade, commerce and Industry needs to reform and reimagine its role in nation-building.
Dr Douglas addressed the Diplomats in attendance at the event’s opening ceremony. He insisted that diplomats must be tactful, not timid. Additionally, Dr Douglas stated that their interventions should impact the state of the world. After that, he committed that he would work in the capacity of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and facilitate change from within and without.
Dr Denzil Douglas promised to empower the diplomatic core of St Kitts and Nevis through training and capacity-building exercises. They will get the support of International friends in their efforts at development. Further, he added that through this initiative, they would reward outside-the-box thinking, make efforts to prioritize boldness, and valuable experience and expertise.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, added that they would lead an inter-ministerial approach with his ministry to secure the vision of a sustainable island state. Through this initiative, they seek to promote the confidence of the international partners in the government’s approach.
Accordingly, Dr Denzil Douglas shared that the private sector will also get a partner in his ministry as they work to develop the economy by building new industries, reviving trusted ones and bringing St Kitts and Nevis out of the periphery of the global supply chain.
