The Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) has shared a manifesto detailing their plans for the future of the Nevis Island Administration if they get re-elected from their constituencies.
Their plans for the various industries involved in the tourism industry are outlined below:
CCM’s plans for Hospitality Training Centre
In the next term, the government shall construct a hospitality training facility on Nevis as part of the upgrade to transform the economy. Further, they will attempt to acquire the former Old Manor Hotel. The island administration will renovate the structure to become the regional hub for a world-class hospitality training facility.
CCM’s plans for Hotel Development
The CCM believes that Hotels are an important economic component in our country and, as such, the political party has included the hotels in their efforts to support economic recovery. In the manifesto, The CCM outlined that they will
• Attract direct foreign investment and increase activity in this sector through a public-private partnership.
- Collaborate with developers to redevelop Nisbett Plantation into a world-class resort facility.
- Facilitate the development of two resort facilities at Pinney’s Estate, one in the mountains dedicated to wellness and the other on the beach, along with villas and associated amenities. The preferred brands are luxury brands such as Six Senses, Auberge, One and Only, Rosewood and Aman.
- This will ensure that Nevis remains firmly fixed in our luxury market.
- Facilitate the development of a luxury community for actors and investors surrounding the digital film studio.
- Work with the developers at Tamarind Cove to complete the condominium development there.
- Facilitate buildings, whether residential or commercial
CCM Plans for Small Business Development
Small businesses enhance local economies by bringing growth and innovation, which in turn serves to boost economic growth by producing jobs. Since many small firms can respond and adapt quickly to changing financial situations, the Concerned Citizens Movement government will continue to create an environment that encourages this, particularly during the post-pandemic period. We will continue to provide incentives to assist this industry in surviving and thriving. The CCM government commits to the following:
- Provide incentives for starting and growing enterprises on Nevis by granting all newly licensed small firms a 3-year moratorium on all Customs Duties and VAT charges.
- Waive business license fees for three years for startup businesses.
- Offering a 50% reduction in unincorporated business tax for three years for startup businesses
- Provide access to workers through the Step Programme for three years for startup businesses.
CCM’s Plans for the Coding Industry
With a growing demand for coders and an increase in software and software-related positions, there is a great need for information technology positions and coding skills. In light of this, the CCM government commits to the following:
- Establish the region’s first coding academy. The authorities of Nevis have selected the former Brown Hill Call Centre as the potential site of this coding academy.
- Teaching Nevisians and regional students how to code so that they can create websites, video games, apps, and other online content.
The election day in Nevis for the five seats in the assembly will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022
