St Kitts and Nevis archives have given official confirmation of the national coat of arms, which is to be used for all the official purposes in the federation of St Kitts and Nevis.

Reportedly, the national symbol of the twin island federation has been through several stages of alterations and changes. For this reason, the officials and people of the nation, along with several non-nationals, have gone through several confusions.

These confusions have ended, along with the longstanding debate surrounding the national symbol, “the coat of arms,” which has also been resolved by St Kitts and Nevis National Archives.

The SKN National Archives has given out a picture of the official and recognized coat of arms for St Kitts and Nevis. The authorities have further stated that the new and officially recognized coat of arms is included in all government paraphernalia. The government is recreating all the crucial substances related to itself to have the latest and approved formal national symbol.

The national symbol seal of the twin island federation will now feature in usage for various media, including large signage, letterheads, stationary and such.

The government of St Kitts and Nevis adopted the Coat of Arms in 1983, following their independence. The national symbol featured the following motto:

Country Above Self”.

The centre of “Coat of Arms” is a shield. It features a lighter at the base, in full sail.

A red chevron is highlighted above by two poinciana flowers. The poinciana is the national flower of St Kitts and Nevis. The top of the shield features the head of a Carib, who was one of the first inhabitants of the twin-island nation. Further, the national symbol has a fleur-de-lis and a rose on either side. The fleur-de-lis and the rose reflect the country’s French and English influences.

Further, the coat of arms features a helmet topped with battlements of a flaming torch. The tourch is upheld by the hands of African, European, and another person of mixed descent.

The torch signifies the struggle and quest for the freedom by people of diverse ethnic origins united for a common purpose. Supporting the shield are St Kitts and Nevis national bird, two pelicans with extended wings next to a sugar cane plant and a coconut palm tree illustrating our fertile lands.
