Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, attended the COP27, or the United Nations Climate Change Conference on behalf of St Kitts and Nevis. The conference is being held at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
During the COP27 event, The delegation from St Kitts and Nevis got the chance to explore the culture of Egypt, where the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference is taking place from November 6, 2022, to November 18, 2022.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs took to his social media to share his experience while attending the conference. He wrote:
For me, COP27 (UN Climate Change Conference 2022) was a moment to learn some powerful lessons.
COP27 was also a time to stop, think, reflect, and escape into and absorb this great Egyptian civilization’s profound history, the beautiful, entertaining, charming, and phenomenal culture.
Dr Denzil Douglas shared a video from the conference on his social media account. The video featured a snake charmer, “Charming and provoking deadly, poisonous snakes.”
He wrote, referring to the video, “At one moment of entertainment, I marvelled at the Charmer provoking and charming the deadly snakes both rhythmically moving to musical sounds. There were many powerful lessons to be learnt as I filmed this moment of entertainment at the Dreams Resort, Sharm el~Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt.”
Dr Douglas also attended a side event focussed on enhancing women’s empowerment programs for small businesses in the Caribbean during the event. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, spoke at the event on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. COP recognizes the day as Gender Day
During the address, Dr Douglas explored the challenges and opportunities of Women’s Economic Empowerment as COP observed November 15 as “Gender Day”.
Dr Denzil Douglas spoke on the topic, “A pathway towards building women’s resilience in crisis”, as the Federation recognizes and celebrates gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in climate policy and action.
A delegation of Ministers, including Ministers Dr Joyelle Clarke, and Konris Maynard, among others, accompanied him at the event.
