The nationals of St Kitts and Nevis have hosted the celebration of the 39th Anniversary of the country’s national independence in London after a two-year hiatus mandated by Covid-19.
The people travelled from Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester, Leeds, Luton, Slough, and Wales, and throughout London, and assembled at the Headquarters of the International Maritime Organisation, IMO. The headquarters were transformed for a short time into an elegant chapel and a long dining hall to celebrate the 39th Anniversary of St Kitts and Nevis’ independence.
Reverend Guy Hewitt officiated the special service held during the independence Celebration. He delivered a heartfelt message to the gathered listeners. His message deeply resonated with the people assembled at the event. The reverend reminded them of the journey they were on and to never forget the sacrifices some of them have made to build a more prosperous the United Kingdom.
Reverend Guy Hewitt further noted that their hard work and energies were bearing fruit, both here in the United Kingdom and back home in St Kitts and Nevis. Reverend then spoke about the importance of self-reliance and working together as a small independent island state. He urged the attendees of the celebration event to keep faith with self, community and country.
High Commissioner Isaac, who recieved the able support of his staff in organising Friday’s event, welcomed the more than 150 nationals of St Kitts and Nevis who were in attendance at the event and thanked them for their presence.
The High Commissioner expressed his delight in meeting the them again. He conveyed the greetings and well wishes from Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and Foreign Minister Dr Denzil Douglas.
Further, He updated nationals on some of the steps which have been taken to date and the strategic initiatives of the new government to transform the nation, including via the means of better educational opportunities.
In his address at the Independence Thanksgiving Service, High Commissioner Isaac urged the nationals to keep faith with their fellow brothers and sisters.
He implored them to look out for each other and come together to refocus our collective efforts, redesign our vision and re-create and prosper our beloved federation. He further encouraged them to remember and to hold dear the many friends and family members we lost along the way during the pandemic.
