The Royal Saint Cristopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is currently preparing for the upcoming tourist season in St Kitts and Nevis. In light of the situation, the island constables of the RSCNPF are taking part in a refresher course. This course is aimed at ensuring that the officers are on top of their game for the busiest period.
At the commencement of the course, RSCNPF Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy encouraged the Island Constables to always give their best as this (2022) would be the first tourist season for the nation without COVID-19 travel restrictions.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Brandy, “The department of Tourism has already announced that they are having a bumper season this year. As such, I want you all to go out and look smart.
He told his island constables officers that St Kitts and Nevis has a new Tourism Minister, and she expects big things from the RSCNPF. He urged his officers not to disappoint her.
He said, “Show her that you are capable and can do a good job, so with these few words, I want to thank you for serving.”
Force Personnel Officer, Clifford Govia, reminded the Island Constables of the importance of their roles. According to him, the course would cover areas such as traffic matters, ethics in law, customer service, theory and practice in evidence and malicious damage, among other topics.
The course began on October 19, 2022, runs for about two weeks and will be primarily facilitated by the training school’s instructors. The supervisor for the Island Constables in the Tourist Patrol Unit, Alex Marshall, was also present at the commencement of the course. The Ministry of Tourism officials will also make presentations at the course. The Constables attended a similar refresher course in 2020, and ongoing training is a critical part of the initiative.
They are posted in Tourist Prescribed Areas such as Independence Square, Brimstone Hill, the War Memorial, etc.
