The prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, was recently featured in a special interview where he spoke about several national issues. He also talked to the media representative at freedom FM about how the government is looking to face those issues. During the interview, Dr Drew shared some significant updates about the healthcare industry.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew shared significant updates about the situation and issues faced by the medical fraternity members, especially focussing on the Nursing Fraternity. The Prime Minister stated during the interview that Our nurses faced several critical issues, and our St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration has worked fervently to address these issues.
According to Prime Minister Drew, One of the major issues was the passing of the Nurses and Midwives (Registration) (Amendment) Bill 2023. The bill provides for establishing a Nursing and Midwives Council, which should maintain a Register of nurses and midwives and a Roll of Nursing Assistants who satisfy the conditions for admission to the Register. The legislation also provides for the Certification of registration.
Dr Terrance Drew shared that we have provided transportation to ensure our nurses’ safety and assist our nurses with getting home after hours. The Prime Minister, and the Minister of Health, also shared several other significant updates about the nursing staff of St Kitts and Nevis. Dr Drew recently met with the members of the nursing staff of the country.
According to Dr Drew, The government of St Kitts and Nevis is making significant efforts to provide adequate training for our nurses. Recently leadership training was held for our nursing managers. There will be many more training opportunities in numerous areas that will enhance the necessary soft skills and provide opportunities for Certification.
The Prime Minister Terrance Drew also shared several updates regarding the healthcare sector in St Kitts and Nevis and assured the people that the government is working diligently to solve the issues that the country is facing
