Prime Minister Terrance Drew signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of West Indies (UWI), marking a significant step towards creating a sustainable future.
The MoU was signed by PM Dr. Terrance Drew on behalf of St. Kitts and Nevis and Professor Hilary Beckles on behalf of UWI on 29th May 2024.
The historic document was signed at the end of the successful National Side Event at Sustainable Island Development State (SIDS4). The conference presented on “Tackling Human Capital and Health Crisis in the Caribbean.”
Dr. Terrance Drew was joined by major leaders: Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development et al.; Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs et al.; P
rof. Hilary Beckles, Vice Chancellor, The University of West Indies; and other distinguished regional professionals.
Dr. Joyelle Clarke expressed her delight, saying, “This agreement signifies coordinated and intentional action to ensure that our Federation is equipped with the necessary tools and support to proactively pursue our Sustainable Island State Agena (SISA).”
This engagement demonstrates where the implementation of our #SISA impacts various sectors and establishes the extent of the Government’s commitment to the development of partnerships and collaboration strategically.
The signing ceremony also shows the government’s commitment to enhance regional integration and encourage strategic partnerships.
This MoU deals with climate change and sustainable development for the small island states as well as growth opportunities. This aspect shows the commitment of PM Terrance Drew to come with out-of-the-box solutions to tackle the challenges unique to SIDS.
The ministers expressed their views towards the end of the event and said that the session provided deep and rich information.
