Dominica Labour Party launched Melissa Poponne Skerrit, wife of Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit as the candidate from Roseau Central constituency on Saturday evening.
The event which was organized in Roseau had a massive gathering of DLP supporters. Party supporters drenched in rain but still stood tall in support of their political leaders. The prodigious stage was set up and numerous people came out to showcase their support for Melissa Skerrit and Dominica Labour Party.
The event is said to be the biggest candidate launch by Dominica Labour Party for upcoming general elections. Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, general election candidates and Deputy Prime Minister Reginald Austrie made their presence for the occasion.
Several singers including famous Jamaican-American singer Tarrus Riley also performed on this profound occasion.
Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt stated during the event that the government under the administration of the Dominica Labour Party partially rebuild the nation that was down for the count just 26 months ago and the government managed to do this without any increase in direct taxation or any significant increase in the national debt.
Dr. Skerrit added that if the elections were not due in this year or next year then 1,000 homes program, Dominica-China hospital, and an international airport, as well as other undergoing projects, would be completed as promised.
“Everything Labour has promised, we can deliver because we have identified the resources needed to get the job done.”
PM targeted the opposition by saying “Dominica Labour Party has made friends with the world. The other party has made enemies for Dominica.”
Dr. Skerrit said that the government must take forward the obligations and projects of the previous government but the opposition leader of this country has signalled his intention to default on every binding agreement of the nation because he believes that a change of government should mean a change of everything through which it is clear that if in case the UWP wins the elections on December 6th then they will definitely scrap the housing Dominica project including Dominica-China hospital along with other major projects that are ongoing for the betterment of people and the economy.
Nevertheless, the extreme concentration of Dr. Skerrit’s speech remained towards building a better and Dynamic Dominica in the coming years.
