St Kitts and Nevis has initiated plans to build a new national hospital with the aim of meeting the healthcare needs of the present and the future generations. The new climate smart hospital to be named ‘Sir Joseph N. France Health Network Multi-Specialty Hospital’ will be built near Ross University in Camps in the twin island Federation.
This new healthcare facility will be the first hospital built in St Kitts and Nevis in the last several decades and is designed to provide comfort to the patients, offer disaster resilience, and use eco-friendly practices. It also serves as a cornerstone of the Sustainable Island State Agenda, which prioritizes climate resilience, sustainability, and innovation across all sectors.
Sir Joseph N. France Health Network Multi-Specialty Hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology. It will be built to withstand Category 5 hurricanes and earthquakes. This new hospital will also make use of solar power and green initiatives, serving not only citizens, but also tourists and the entire Eastern Caribbean.
Dr Drew reported that the land acquisition issues have been resolved and from now on no land issue will stop or delay the construction of the hospital.
National Health Care Reform at the New Hospital
The project is in its preparatory phase at present and is described as the most transformative healthcare initiative ever seen in the nation. According to reports, the hospital will include a medical research lab, a teaching hospital component, and a medical school.
The construction of the new hospital is intended to position St Kitts and Nevis as a regional hub for healthcare and innovation, not just serving local residents but potentially attracting patients and students from across the Caribbean.
This new facility will have expanded bed capacity and services, allowing for more complex surgeries and treatments to take place in the Federation. The construction of the new national hospital also involves consultations with international experts and donors.
