The Minister of Sports in the Nevis Island Administration has welcomed the talented young sprinter Kamarley Newton of Nevis to his office. Newton met with Minister Troy Liburd during the previous week before he departed from Nevis for a three-month training stint in Jamaica.
During this three month period, Kamarley Newton will be training under the renowned sprint coach Glen Mills. Mills is the former coach of legendary Jamaican and international sprinter Usain Bolt.
The Minister, during Newton’s visit to his office, extended his best wishes to the young sprinter for a successful training period. Liburd also appreciated the youngster for his talent and urged him to take advantage of the opportunity that he has received.
The Nevis Island Administration, through the Ministry of Sports, will be funding the young sprinter, Newton’s training and stay while he is in Jamaica. He will also be joined by fellow sprinter Chesson Liburd of St. Kitts during the training session which will run for three weeks. Liburd’s training is being supported by the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee.
The training for both the youngsters is being done in a professional area so that they will be able to understand the workings of the international games.
The Minister of Sports Nevis Island Administration also welcomed the parents and family members of Kamarley Newton to his office. His coach was also part of the group that met with the Minister of Sports.
Also in attendance was the First Olympian of Nevis, Kurvin Wallace. The meeting highlights Nevis’s dedication to the growth of the St Kitts and Nevis sports and athletics sector.
Both athletes will be able to benefit tremendously from training in an environment that includes the reigning 100m World Champion, Oblique Seville, along with other world-class athletes.
