Kevin Hope, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Consultant has claimed that Nevis has the potential for being a model for sustainable development among Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The SDG Consultant made these remarks during his high level meeting with Eric Evelyn who is handling affairs at Nevis as acting Premier.
The meeting happened during the Previous week, which was the Caribbean Week at the CTO and Premier Mark Brantley was attending said event in New York. During this meeting, several stakeholders were present as witnesses on both the sides of the table.
The authorities launched the Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of Nevis’ progress for the SDGs set for the year 2030. The sustainable development goals are a mission for all the members of the international community to work with.
Cosbert Woods, who serves as the United Nations Country Coordination Officer for St. Kitts and Nevis was present at the meeting held on June 3. He was accompanied by the communications specialist for the UN Vittorio Hendrickson.
The meeting with the acting premier of Nevis, Eric Evelyn was hosted after a stakeholders meeting where the VLR was launched. The SDG consultant saw the working of the Island in reaching their SDGs, and called their approach strategic.
At the same time, Hope praised the island and said that Nevis can be a source of inspiration for the rest of the Caribbean and the rest of the world. The small island nation is actively working towards the attainment of the sustainable development goals, said the officer.
Further, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Consultant said that they are actively getting reviews done in order to identify gaps in their implementation.
The Acting Premier of Nevis, Eric Evelyn has assured the stakeholders that he met on June 3, that Nevis remains committed to Sustainable Development. He also extended his supporters to the Sustainable Island State Agenda that the federal government has put in place for the twin island state
