The Police has said that all of the four terrorists, who attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi today, have been shot dead.
According to the officials, at least six other people died in the attack.
Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon told the reporters that the building which was attacked, is in a high-security zone which also has the head offices of several private banks, was attacked by gunmen who had grenades and guns.
Memon said that four attackers were killed and that they came to the scene in a silver Corolla car.
According to a statement from the Karachi Police four security guards, a policeman and a bystander were also killed in the attack.
The statement said that the Police had recovered modern automatic weapons and explosive materials from the terrorists.
The responsibility of the attack has not been claimed by any terror group so far.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) tweeted and said that the situation is still unfolding.
One of the tweets said that there was an attack on the PSX compound today. The situation is still unfolding, and the management is managing the security and controlling the situation with the help of security forces.
Another tweet said that a more detailed statement would be issued in due course once the situation comes under control, and more details come to light. For now, firing has stopped, and reinforcement is in place.
Earlier this month, three explosions on a single day claimed by a little-known separatist group had killed four people two of them, soldiers, in the province of Sindh, of which Karachi is the capital.
Imran Ismail Governor of the Sindh province has condemned the attack.
He said on Twitter that he strongly condemns the attack on the Pakistan Stock Exchange PSX aimed at tarnishing Pakistan’s relentless war on terror.
He added that the IG & security agencies are instructed to ensure that the perpetrators are caught alive & their handlers are given exemplary punishments. Sindh shall be protected at all costs.
