Jahzara Claxton and Aaliyah Weekes, two women from St Kitts and Nevis, have been selected in West Indies U19 Women’s team to play in the ICC U19 Women’s T-20 World Cup in Malaysia, which will be held from January 18th to February 2nd, 2025.
The selection of Claxton and Weekes marks a significant milestone for the twin island nation as they will be recognized for their talents on the global stage while also paving the way for other young talents to be discovered.
About Jahzara Claxton
Jahzara Claxton, an 18 years old cricketer and footballer, is the first female cricketer from Leeward Islands and St Kitts to be selected in the U19 West Indies Women’s team.
She has also been named one of the 25 Most Remarkable Teens by the National Assembly of St Kitts and Nevis.
About Aaliyah Weekes
Aaliyah Weekes is a 16 year old cricketer who started her career with Leeward Islands U19 Women’s team.
She is the first female member of St. Paul’s Cricket Club to be selected in the West Indies U19 women’s team.
Ministers of St Kitts and Nevis congratulate the players on their achievement
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew congratulated Jahzara Claxton and Aaliyah Weekes on their achievement of getting selected in the West Indies U19 Women’s team.
He shared a post on his Facebook page and said, “Their hard work, talent, and determination have brought immense pride to the Federation.”
PM Drew further encouraged the youth to follow them as their role model and choose positive and uplifting paths.
Foreign Affairs Minister Denzil Llewellyn Douglas appreciated the two women for their achievement of being in the top 15 players to represent West Indies U19 Women’s team in the ICC U19 Women’s T-20 World Cup.
He also mentioned the names of the rest of the players from Samara Ramnath, captain of the team to all the other players playing or will be their as substitutes.
Further, Minister of Sports and Creative Economy Samal Duggins also congratulated them and wished them to their best, while sharing how proud they are of their achievement.
