ST. Kitts & Nevis ranks top of the class in several key areas, says PM Harris

The Honourable Dr Timothy Harris, reflected on some of the advancements of the country over the past 37 years, noting that St Kitts and Nevis ranks top of the class in several key areas.

Prime Minister Harris said that if we examine the World Justice Report Rule of Law Index, St. Kitts and Nevis has been among the top of the class on the majority of indicators over the last five years, and in particular, St. Kitts and Nevis has been the best-performing country within the OECS for two years in a row and ranked significantly in the top among all other nations within the Americas.

He added that if we examine the United Nations Quality of Life Index, St. Kitts and Nevis is forging ahead in the top of the class among its peers. If we are evaluated against the ICT Index Governance, and the country’s partnership in that regard by the international observers, St. Kitts and Nevis ranks very well.

Additionally, St. Kitts and Nevis also rank high in the export industry.

The prime minister said that St. Kitts and Nevis has been the larger exporter of merchandise products to the USA and this continues up even today when St. Kitts and Nevis ranks not only the highest among Barbados and the countries in the OECS but also in the broader region. On per capita basis, the country’s exports are at 11, 541 against the Bahamas which leads at 11, 624 per person.

He added that in terms of per capita income, St. Kitts and Nevis is number 1 in the OECS and it is among the top three within the wider hemisphere excluding Canada and the USA.

He added that these are the significant developments of which the country can be proud of as the country celebrates 37 years of Independence and looks forward to the next 10, 20, 30 years as a sovereign state.

Dr Harris used the occasion to reflect on the 37 years of Independence of St Kitts and Nevis, noting that St. Kitts and Nevis has made significant strides over the years.
