St Kitts and Nevis is celebrating National Fruit Day, also referred to as the ‘SKN Moves National Fruit Day. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13, 2022. 

The government has also outlined the rules of the competition to be held on Tuesday as well as the eligibility for the people who are allowed to participate in the contest. 

As a part of the competition, the Ministry of Health Nutrition Surveillance Program has challenged the people of St Kitts and Nevis to make a healthy fruit dish or a smoothie with the help of natural fruit and vegetable ingredients. 

The rules of the competition are: 

  • It is open to all residents of St Kitts. 
  • The participant must use Facebook through which they could post on a personal page and tag “In Ya Kitchen” Facebook page. 
  • The dishes must not have any added sweeteners such as honey, sugar, molasses, condensed milk etc.
  • The participant must post, tag, like and share an entry on Facebook by 11:55 pm on Tuesday, September 13. 

The judging criteria of the competition are as follows: 

  • Ingredients: Ingredients should be made up of at least two (2) fruits and (2) vegetables to make a healthy snack or smoothie.
  • Presentation: The entry for the competition must be as visually attractive /decorative as possible.
  • Like and Shares: Facebook likes and shares also matter as points will be awarded for each like and share.

The government encouraged the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis to participate in the competition by stating that this is the time to make a healthy fruit snack or smoothie and post its pictures on social and must tag them in Ya Kitchen.

The government declared, “Challenge yourself in September this year to substitute your pre-packaged snack (chips, chocolates, cookies, candy etc.) with healthy fruits and vegetables.”

Denzil Douglas, the foreign minister of St Kitts and Nevis, also took to social media and asked the citizens to participate in National Fruit Day.
