As a proud citizen of St Kitts and Nevis, I have been seeing a worrying pattern in the recent past. Some organizations and media outlets have been spreading negativity and rumours about the incumbent administration.
Social media and news outlets have been trying to mislead the public into believing that the nation is on the cusp of chao. According to several on social media, the leadership is not doing their job and the country is without direction.
To anyone living exclusively on their social media feed, these reports are not only worrying, but would cause panic. However, these reports, more often than not far from the truth.
In the real world, the incumbent government, led by Dr Terrance Drew has been making a difference. The government, which is being claimed as incapable by opposition fueled propaganda has been rebuilding.
Every policy and action of the St Kitts and Nevis government has taken the nation forward. The government led by Dr Terrance Drew has made advancements in the field of healthcare. The reforms in this sector have led to much modernization of the healthcare sector.
The government has also been making investments into bringing real jobs and opportunities for the people of the country. The government has also been working diligently in strengthening their global connections to secure a place fo the voice of St Kitts and Nevis to be heard.
When progress comes, it does not come with trumpets and announce itself, but it is visible in the way it changes our communities. Real change and lasting difference takes time and effort.
Every day can not come with victories in the real world, but that does not mean it is right to negate all the victories that have come in the past. While it is indeed the duty of the media to hold the government accountable, constant negative publications do little more than manufacture panic.
It is clear that the opposition wants to create a sense of apprehension and mistrust among the people of the island nation. This comes across as a tactic of distraction, convincing the people that no progress is coming.
The unethical, and often not factual reports have been misleading the people into believing a much grimmer picture than what is the truth. While it is not to be denied that the nation has its own set of challenges, what St Kitts and Nevis today is not cynicism but belief in unity and tangible work.
