St Kitts and Nevis: Federal cabinet members celebrated Dr Denzil L Douglas’s 35 years of exceptional service to the nation as the Member of Parliament for St Christopher Six at the Parliamentary Lounge of Government headquarters.
All the current and former Ministers of Government, ambassadors, and other dignitaries came together to congratulate Dr Denzil Douglas on 35 years of continuous service to the nation. He was pivotal in establishing the federation’s development plans and was elected to the Parliament on March 21, 1989.
Dr. Douglas was born on 14 January 1953, in the village of St Paul’s. After completing his secondary education, he started teaching at the University of West Indies. He obtained his BSC (Hons) in Natural Sciences in 1977. He taught again for two years and continued his studies in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees in 1984.
Dr Douglas returned to St Kitts and Nevis after that and served as the President of the St Kitts and Nevis Medical Association for several years.
He began his political career in 1979 when he became the first young labour representative to sit on the National Executive of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party.
In 1987 he was elected Deputy Chairman of the party . In march 1989 he was elected as the Parliamentary Representative of St Christopher 6 .
Douglas was sworn in as PM on 4th July, and in the 2000s he was re-elected as Prime Minister.Again in 2004, he was elected as the Prime Minister.

In November 2011 Dr Douglas was appointed to her Majesty’s Privy Council, thus earning the prefix, “Right Honourable “ to his name.

The Right Honorouable Dr. Denzil L Douglas was sworn in as the Minister of Foreign affairs, International Trade, Industry , Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Investment in august 2022.
