In a bid to improve operational efficiency and safety, the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) has acquired 40 new handheld radios for its security department. The initiative, which is led by the body’s Chief Operations Officer Calvin Duggins, highlights SCASPA’s mission to empower its personnel with cutting-edge tools to achieve flawless communication across facilities.
In a post on its official Facebook page, SCASPA said the new devices will play a key role in streamlining its response mechanism, improving coordination, and maintaining the best possible security norms at the agency’s ports. It also posted photographs of the devices and Duggins receiving the contingent from an official.
“This latest enhancement is part of a broader effort to strengthen SCASPA’s infrastructure and support its mission of delivering world-class port services,” the Facebook post said.
“SCASPA remains dedicated to innovation and continuous improvement to better serve the community.”
Modernizing equipment
Over the years, SCASPA has focused on modernizing its equipment. In July 2017, its mechanics and operators received a new TC5 Koncrane Reach Stacker to keep pace with the advancements in global industrial technology and cargo movement. They were also given rigorous training by an expert from Miami, United States, whereby they were taught the machinery’s ‘do’s and don’ts’ besides a general overview.
About SCASPA
SCASPA is a statutory corporation which was set up by the St. Kitts and Nevis government in 1993 to unite airports and seaports in St. Kitts. Providing a gateway to St. Kitts, the agency operates Port Zante Cruise Ship Terminal, Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport, Basseterre Deep Water (Cargo) Port and the Basseterre Ferry Terminal. It is managed by a board of directors and a management team and is headquartered at Bird Rock, Basseterre.
SCASPA provides support to the federal government to promote international trade, tourism, and long-term economic expansion to boost the Federation’s development.
Adeola Moore is the chief executive officer while Vaughn Woodley is the legal counsel. Joseph Wilson is the seaport manager and Don Grant is the airport manager. Jonathan Bass is the chairman of the board of directors and Stacey Battice is the secretary of the board.
Nevis, on the other hand, has the Nevis Air and Sea Ports Authority (NASPA) which was established in 1995 and started operations two years later. It has the responsibility of ownership and operation of the island’s designated air and seaports.
