The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew visited the Veterans General Hospital in Taipei during his official week-long state visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan).Taking to his social media, the Prime Minister said that the visit was done with the aim of bringing the expertise of Taiwan in creating the climate smart facilities.

The Prime Minister said that the Veterans General Hospital is a highly advanced medical organization of Taiwan. The officials have shared that they examined some of the advanced  medical systems and technologies being utilized by the hospital.

St Kitts and Nevis is preparing to construct the new Climate Smart JNF General Hospital. The Republic of China has been an important ally of St Kitts and Nevis as they move forward in the construction of the hospital. 

The Prime Minister said that he is grateful for all the support that the Republic of China (Taiwan)  has extended to St Kitts and Nevis in improving the healthcare sector and health offerings of the island nation. 

The Prime Minister has been handling the responsibility for the Ministry of Health for three years. In addition to several advancements including procurement of new equipment for several departments of the JNF General Hospital, Prime Minister has been dedicated towards bringing the new climate smart hospital to the people of the island. 

According to SKNIS, the official government information service for St Kitts and Nevis, Ambassador Leon Natta Nelson was accompanying PM Drew to the visit. Ambassador Natta-Nelson has been handling the responsibility for the lead coordinator on the hospital project. 

The construction will be done in such a way that the hospital can withstand extreme climate events such as a Category 5 Hurricane. The Prime Minister brought the attention of the people to the fact that the reality of the world is that extreme weather conditions are affecting small island nations like St Kitts and Nevis. 

As such, it is very important for all the stakeholders to prepare for these events very well in advance. The construction of the new climate smart general hospital is part of this preparation drive. 

The Prime Minister said that they are in the first phases of building the climate smart hospital which will be able to withstand a category five hurricane. He added that the hurricanes are becoming more and more frequent in the region. 

Dr Terrance Drew said that the visit to the Veterans General Hospital comes at a very important time as they progress in the construction of the hospital.
