The Ministry of Information Communication and Technology is inviting applicants to fill the post of Server Administrator in the technology department.

Job description

The Server Administrator is responsible for the design, installation, management and optimization of GOSKN’s data centre servers and related components to achieve high performance for various business applications supported by customizing the servers as needed. 

This includes 

  • ensuring the availability of client/server applications,
  •  Configuring all new applications and developing processes and procedures for the ongoing management of servers and data centres.
  •  The server administrator helps monitor the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data centre/server hardware.

The duties of the server administrator

  • Develop a client/server implementation strategy. 
  • Build the necessary infrastructure to support these strategies.
  • Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements related to the client/server environment. 
  •  Coordinate and collaborate with network and application management as well as database management functions to ensure the availability, reliability and scalability of servers to meet requirements. 
  •  Establish and implement policies, procedures and technologies to ensure server security. 
  •  Assist in the design and implementation of data centre/server room security features, including environmental alerts, access control, etc. 
  •  Research server hardware, software and processes to support sales and development activities. 
  •  Manage the configuration and management of the file system. Identify and perform recovery actions and recovery procedures. 
  • Manages corporate directory services and supports server infrastructure.

 Education background and qualifications 

The candidate should have the following qualifications :

  • University degree in computer science or business informatics or related discipline.
  • five years of experience in the same field 
  • certificate in server administration is an extra advantage 

skills required for the post 

  • Experience working in a team-oriented and collaborative environment. 
  •  Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all types of server hardware and associated network devices, including SCSI, RAID, and I/O topology. 
  • Ability to research servers and products and diagnose and resolve server problems. 
  • Experience with server performance optimization and monitoring tools
  • Working technical knowledge of scripting code using Perl, CGI and C-Shell scripting tools.

salary: K28-32 / K33 – K38 ($49,308 – $57,228) / ($59,340-$72,936) per annum
