The 39th edition of Child Month commemorated in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. The Child month officially began on June 1, 2024 under the theme, “Embrace Inclusion, Every Child Counts.” Prime Minister Terrance Drew has initiated several crucial policies for the children of his nation.
“As we commemorate the beginning of Child Month, this Labour administration pledges to create an environment that is best for our children,” says PM Terrance Drew.
- One-to-One Laptop Policy: This aims at equipping students with the technological tools needed for learning in this generation. Making sure every kid is furnished with his own device will definitely make the government move much beyond just improving education; it is also developing digital literacy.
- Commitment towards Free College Education: It’s another step toward opening the doors to higher learning. Offering college education to all children is not only the government’s investment in their individual futures but an act of growth for national development.
The free tuition for college students was the first initiative for the children of St. Kitts and Nevis, announced by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew after he was elected into his office.
- More subsidies at the pre-school level for all children: Bearing in mind the importance of early childhood education, PM Drew has subsidized increased pre-school subventions.
- Children’s Medical Fund: Dr. Terrance Drew has opened this fund to make sure that every child gets access to important medical care, ensuring well-being of the children. Several children who were in need of lifesaving medical treatment overseas have already benefitted from the initiative.
The Prime Minister remains committed to ensure that no child is kept from getting medical treatment due to their family’s financial situation.
- Children’s saving and financial literacy program: This Labour administration initiative will ensure every child gets $1000-$500 in savings and $500 in shares. The literacy program is on course to start in September 2024.
“This is arguably among the best set of policies for children’s well-being anywhere in the world,” proudly added PM Dr. Terrance Drew.
