Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew and his delegation have travelled to New York to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The UNGA is held every year in September at the Headquarters of the UN in New York, where world leaders from the United Nations member states meet to debate critical global issues. In 2022, the session is being held under the theme “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.”
According to the World Economic Forum, “the theme stems from recognising that the world is at a critical moment in the history of the United Nations due to complex and interconnected crises. These crises include the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, humanitarian challenges of unprecedented nature, tipping in climate change, and growing concerns about threats to the global economy.”
The UNGA was formed under the fourth chapter of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), signed on June 26, 1945, in San Francisco and is the central policy-making body of the UN. The objective of the meeting is to devise joint solutions to world crises.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew will address the General Assembly on Friday, September 23 2022.
Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Konris Maynard, Minister of Public Infrastructure, ICT; Dr Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development; Nerys Dockery, UN Ambassador-designate; Naeemah Hazelle, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister; Samuel Berridge, Senior Assistant Secretary, Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit, Office of the Prime Minister; Gurdip Dev Bath, Special Representative and Advisor to the Prime Minister and Dillon Edmeade, Aide to the Prime Minister, will be accompanying the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew to New York to attend the UNGA.
Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley will be working as the Acting Prime Minister in the absence of the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew will return on September 26, 2022.
