Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, was featured in an interview by Winn Media SKN. Winn Media called the discussion “inside the news”, where Dr Drew talked about the developments of the country during his administration. The interview was held on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
Dr Terrance Drew recounted some of the most prominent achievements of the SKNLP-led government. Some of these achievements include opening the country for travel. Dr Terrance Drew noted that closing the country for the rest of the world was important due to the Pandemic. However, when they removed all the restrictions associated with the Covid, they were unnecessary. Dr Terrance Drew said, in the interview, that these restrictions were damaging to the economy.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Drew talked about honorarium payments and severance payments. The Drew-led government made the honorarium payments to all the individuals who “in the normal course of their duties” may have put their lives in danger during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Meanwhile, the government made severance payments to individuals terminated from their jobs during the Pandemic. Some of these individuals got released because they did not get vaccinated. Here, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis also talked about the government’s aid to parents whose children need medical treatment overseas. Dr Drew believes that no parents should go through the pain on account of their children.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew then elaborated on the need for St Kitts and Nevis to have a universal healthcare system. Dr Drew noted that the government is working to ensure that people can access universal healthcare. At the same time, he also talked about the new appointments in the healthcare sector, including the new permanent secretary.
Dr Terrance Drew also informed the people of St Kitts and Nevis about the status of the MRI machine. Dr Drew noted that they had ordered the MRI machine. They have also started to construct the housing enclosure for the machine. The government is also beginning work on a new state-of-the-art hospital to provide better healthcare in the federation.
